How to Clean and Care for Glass, Crystal, and Rattan Fixtures

Good lighting deserves a little upkeep. A few minutes of care keeps finishes bright and shades looking their best for years. Here's how to care for the materials we use most.

First, Safety

Always switch off power at the wall or breaker and let bulbs cool completely before cleaning. Our fixtures are made for indoor use only.

Hand-Blown and Decorative Glass

Clean glass shades and globes with a lint-free cloth and a mild, non-ammonia cleaner. Support each piece while you wipe, and handle hand-blown glass gently — small variations in the glass are part of its character, not flaws.

Crystal

Dust crystal regularly with a soft, dry cloth to keep it sparkling. For a deeper clean, use a barely damp cloth and dry immediately so no water spots remain.

Rattan and Natural Materials

Dust woven rattan with a soft, dry brush or cloth, or vacuum gently on a low setting to lift dust from the weave. Keep natural materials away from excess moisture, which can cause them to warp over time.

Metal and Finishes

Wipe metal surfaces with a soft, dry microfiber cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners and harsh chemicals, which can dull or damage the finish.
